5 ways to begin building your body lighter and happier than ever before!
May 12, 2025If you’ve been feeling sluggish, stuck and your mind and body is just not as happy as it used to be, you’re not alone. Life gets incredibly busy, stress creeps in, and suddenly your health and happiness take a back seat right?
But here’s the good news: with a few conscious tweaks (yes we have to some effort in for sure), you can absolutely start building a body that feels lighter, healthier, and more alive than you've felt in a really long time.
Here are 5 powerful (yet very doable!) ways to get started:
1. Create space in your body
This is step one. Before you think about food or fitness, begin with relaxing your body.
Take a few minutes each day to turn down the noise. Breathe deeply. Sit above your thoughts rather than inside the chaos. If you can hear your thoughts, it means your not your thoughts.
This simple act of presence helps you relax, settle your nervous system, and reconnect with your body’s natural rhythm. A relaxed body heals better, digests better, and makes clearer choices.
2. Focus on taking out the 'incidental' sugars
You don’t need to cut sugar out completely—just become more mindful of where it hides.
Eliminate the incidental sugar that creeps in without you noticing: the sugar in your tea and coffee, flavoured yoghurts, salad dressings, hot chocolate and coffee powders, cereals, soft drinks, plant-based milks, sauces, condiments, and jars of pasta sauce.
By doing this, you automatically reduce your daily sugar load without feeling deprived. This creates space for the good stuff—like an ice cream at the beach, a piece of chocolate during movie night, or a biscuit with your tea. The best part? You’ll actually enjoy it, because you’ll know you’re making a conscious choice to eat sugar - no shame, no guilt.
3. Make peace with your body
Your body is always listening to you—every cell responds to the way you think and speak about yourself. What if, instead of judging your body, you thanked it? Have you ever taken a moment to thank your liver for detoxifying your blood, your pancreas for removing sugar from your blood, or your gut for breaking down your food and absorbing nutrients?
What about your legs that carry you, or your heart that beats without you asking? Gratitude is powerful. It literally reduces inflammation in the body, lowers stress hormones, and helps your nervous system feel safe.
Start each day with a silent thank-you to your body—it’s doing so much for you, even when you’re not noticing.
4. Get your heart rate up and build some muscle
Start moving your body in a way that strengthens it—whether that’s walking, dancing, lifting weights, or doing bodyweight exercises at home.
The goal isn’t just to burn calories—it’s to build strength, stamina, and resilience.
When you build a bit more muscle, everyday tasks become easier: lifting the fuel hose at the servo, making the bed, vacuuming, mopping, gardening—even sitting at a desk is more comfortable when your back and core muscles are stronger.
Muscle supports your joints, improves your posture, and keeps you active and independent for longer. You don’t need to train like an athlete—just start where you are and build slowly.
5. Focus on the Carefree Three
This is my signature! The Carefree Three — Protein, Healthy fats, and Fibre — are the ultimate trio for a strong, balanced body.
These nutrients keep your blood sugar stable, your energy levels high, your mind clear, and your cravings in check. Think avocado, eggs, nuts, seeds, leafy greens, oily fish, meats, and colourful vegetables. When you start building your meals around the Carefree Three, you naturally eat less sugar and starches (carbs), and you feel fuller for longer.
Plus, it’s simple and freeing. No calorie counting, no strict dieting—just real food that nourishes you deeply.
